I built my 10-year sports writing career on identifying and documenting big-picture trends in the sports world. My work was validated by a pair of Arizona Press Club Awards for excellence in sports writing.

The rise of Daisuke Matsuzaka led D-Backs Insider to assign me a story on the past, present and future of baseball in Japan. Weeks of research carried me from spring training complexes to a phone conversation with a baseball historian in Tokyo to the office of Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall. The end result was a 4,000-word feature exploring the colorful past of Japanese baseball and the possibility of an Asian player someday wearing Sedona Red.
